Ferðafélag Íslands, the Iceland Touring Association, (FÍ) was founded in 1927 with the main aim to facilitate, promote and organize travelling within the country. The association brings together hiking and nature enthusiasts and allows them to experience Iceland in a group of like-minded people guided by locals.
FÍ does this by offering a variety of tours to members and non-members alike, as well as constructing and operating various mountain huts around the country. Additionally, FÍ engages in extensive publishing, trail marking and information services.
Over the years, numerous partners have collaborated with or supported the association in various ways. Through its work, the association demonstrates strong social responsibility, which many are eager to support. The contribution of volunteers has made it possible to build facilities in the highlands and remote areas, enabling both members and the public to travel across the country and make use of them.
With your support, you help FÍ continue its development, maintenance, and educational work about Iceland’s natural environment.
The association’s largest current project is the renewal and reconstruction of Skagfjörðsskáli Hut in Þórsmörk. This work has been ongoing for the past three years, with plans to inaugurate and open the new hut in the summer of 2027. The new building will be constructed on the foundation of the old hut, which will be demolished. While maintaining the original appearance, the interior layout will be upgraded with improved kitchen facilities, a larger dining area, better views, and indoor restroom facilities.
Below, you can support our work and help us continue to make travel in Iceland more accessible.
